Road Stabilization

Improvement of Base Course and Sub-grade

Summary

Existing gravel in roads or cheap local materials can be mixed onsite with cement or lime and spread on the surface by a stabilizer used to make a strong and stable sub-grade or base course. Emulsified asphalt can be used as a building material with cement or lime.

Merit

  • Effective use of existing soil and other materials not complying with standards.
  • Dumping of waste is unnecessary. Simple work and shorter construction period makes this an economical method.

Use

  • Base course improvement of gravel roads, sub-grade improvement of weak ground.
  • Improvement of gravel roads in mountainous areas or remote islands, where transportation of base course material is difficult.

Past performance

National expressways, national highways, prefectural roads, municipal roads, grounds of firms, temporary roads, sports and recreational facilities.
